Woven Product

Use standard cellulosic as a warp (eg cotton or viscose) and (100%) Kanecaron PE as a weft. A minimum of 40% Kanecaron PW is recommended as a percentage of the total fabric weight.

Knitted Product

Intimate blends of PE with cotton or viscose can be used on the face of knitted tickings to pass European standards.

What is Kanecaron PE?

Kanecaron PE is a very special modified acrylic fibre that is inherently flame retardant: the flame retardancy exists for the life of the product

How Does it Work?

Kanecaron PE has excellent charring characteristics as well as superior flame retardant properties (LOI 34). The PW fibre, in conjunction with cotton or other cellulosic fibres, produces inherently FR mattress ticking fabrics with the handle, comfort and advantages of cotton.

Can Achieve

UK: BS 7177 (cigarette & match, Crib 5 and Crib 7).
EU: BS EN ISO 12952 PT 2 and 4.
IMO: Res A.688(17).
USA: 16CFR1633 (as part of a composite).

The Importance of Charring

This is of critical importance in mattress ticking fabrics, where the charred area (formed after burning) creates a barrier that prevents any substrate from igniting. The cellulosic warp combined with Kanecaron PE in the weft, (which together exhibit excellent charring properties), which are an ideal combination. Conversely flame retardant polyester exhibits a melting behaviour.
